"Amateurs practice until they get it right; professionals practice until they can't get it wrong"
- Harold Craxton
''I had been to martial arts clubs before, but I never was interested or motivated. Then I began training in Incorporated Martial Arts in Hamilton, New Zealand at the age of 10 as a complete beginner. While I was naturally gifted in sports and art, I lacked a clear direction and life purpose. Discovering martial arts at Hamilton IMA finally answered that question for me and gave me exactly what I was always looking for: discipline, and a lifelong path, which I am honoured to share with students.

I also had the privilege of attending a Grandmaster Willie Lim seminar when I was a coloured belt, as well as training alongside and looking up to Incorporated Martial Arts Black Belts. Some of whom went on to compete in various overseas in competitions such as the UFC, some became part of elite organisations like the New Zealand Special Air Service (NZSAS). So I witnessed firsthand the foundational value a black belt from our style can have and the real world application.

Through years of dedicated training in martial arts at Hamilton IMA, I developed the focus and mindset needed to help me to achieve academic success, passing NCEA and going on to complete two degrees at the University of Waikato.

The discipline and confidence gained through martial arts training have also carried into other areas of my life, including music/art, which has been truly life-changing. It is a rare skill to be able to continually push yourself and achieve things you didn't think were possible. Martial arts is more than just self-defence. It builds resilience, mental strength, and long-term personal growth.

Over the years, I have made lifelong friends through the Hamilton martial arts community, and I am proud to now help others begin their own journey. Whether you are looking for kids martial arts classes in Hamilton, beginner martial arts classes, adult classes or a supportive environment to grow, the benefits of training can be profound and have a lifelong positive impact.

Progress in martial arts can take time, but the rewards are lasting. My goal is that every student who trains with us at The School of Martial Arts experiences the same life-changing benefits that I have.

Hamilton will always be a city with elite, dedicated martial artists, and I am honoured to be part of that tradition.''- Instructor Ravi
